Compare OR contrast two people, animals or situations. Make sure you have a CONTROLLING IDEA, one that consists of two parts: happy/sad, extrovert/introvert, etc. Your subject i.e. My sisters, my dogs, etc. is not your controlling idea. The controlling idea says something about your subject. Support the controlling ideas with three examples/situations that illustrate it. Be careful you do not introduce another controlling idea as a supporting point. These supporting points should be concrete, not abstract.

LENGTH:  600 to 800 words   STRUCTURE: Use the point-by-point format (to emphasize individual points) or block format (to emphasize the whole picture). Use the same points for each half of the contrast.   SENTENCES: Use concrete words and vary sentence structure using the ones discussed in class. Create images.   OUTLINE:  Include an informal outline that includes your subject, controlling idea and three supporting points.     Font:  Times New Roman Size:  12 Spacing:  1.5   Indent paragraphs.  NO double spacing between paragraphs.
