Use the basic argument organizer provided to guide you. You do not need to turn this in, but it may be helpful to you to remind yourself of the basics of a literary analysis essay.
● IMPORTANT – You must include a counterclaim – consider how “others” may see this differently from yourself. [Providing a counterclaim helps to build credibility (ethos) for your point of view.] This should go after the last support paragraph and BEFORE the conclusion. I have linked a generic formula for the counterclaim. *I like to start a counterclaim with a signal phrase such as: “While some critics may feel….” or “Although it could be seen as….” or “Though there could be debate about….” and then the “rebuttal” piece of it is something to bring the reader back to your point of view.
The essay should be 2-21/2 pages in length, MLA format, Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1 inch margins, double spaced.
